1:30 pm WhatsApp message. It’s a picture from Emanuele Becheri, who for some hours has been walking the streets of Rome, unstoppable, with a reflex on his shoulders. The artist, born in 1973, is in residence 10 days in the Capital for the National Gallery. We asked him to give us a mapping of his presence in direct, without filters. A series of fast but strongly evocative, eloquent snapshots, completely alien to the visual disenchantment or saturation of postmodern images.
Emanuele Becheri has decided to translate the moments in which the reality around him manifests itself in its most significant forms and tells us about a state of mind, a spatial situation, a sound impression without the need for a discursive frame. His photographs are self-sufficient: the image is thought of almost as a fossil of a precise experience, capable of making itself manifest in relation to the viewer.
The artist’s research, which in recent times has turned more attention to plastic modeling of terracotta, to sculpture, could not be indifferent to who had made wise use of marble, the material par excellence of this artistic form, almost as if it were wax. The triumph of forms, the alternation of full and empty but above all the play of light and shadows: Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
