Museum
La Storia
Rome’s National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art is located near Valle Giulia. It hosts 20,000 works – paintings, drawings, sculptures and installations – and offers a great view on art starting from the 1800’s to today. This is the only national museum entirely dedicated to modern and contemporary art. The National Gallery is supported through the special autonomy granted by the Reform of MiBACT (Ministero per i Beni e le attività culturali e per il turismo); it is a place of research and experimentation where one can think about languages, exhibition experiences and the role of contemporary museums.
Archivi
The archives of the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art hold documents and funds that tell the story of the museum and offer the public valuable research tools on Italian cultural and artistic history from the nineteenth century to today.
Archivio dell’istituto
The documents produced by the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art are evidence of its multiple activities starting in 1883, the year of its foundation. The archive – current, filing and historical – represents the institutional memory of the National Gallery and is witness to its changes and developments.

Restauro
The National Gallery houses a restoration workshop of paintings and sculptures and a graphic restoration workshop. Created in 1976, the museum’s laboratories are the only state-owned museum to deal with the conservation and restoration of modern and contemporary works of art. The laboratories preserve the archive of restorations carried out over the years which can be consulted on request.
Pubblicazioni
The body of publications of the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art has over 450 volumes, which can be consulted in the Library. The fund consists of the catalogs of temporary exhibitions and the catalogs-guides or itineraries of the collections, which document the succession of the various arrangements from 1917 to the present.
